What this site is for
An essay is an exploration. It is an act of thinking, and it changes the author. This is the first one on the board, and it is about the board.
This site is a personal digital space where I map my life’s work.
In mapping my life, I am also turning over the concepts I view the world through. I spend a lot of mental energy organizing and categorizing information and artifacts. I am curious to see how the computer science I know applies to modeling the schemas, objects, and tools that help me apply myself.
It is also a place to practice design engineering. I keep collections with names like “designs I fuck with” and “illustrations,” and I consume voraciously and fiddle with how it is all organized. I want to add production to that consumption.
Posting publicly does something that writing alone does not. Making Reels and Stories gets me talking about my life out loud, which connects me to people and sharpens my sense of which work matters. “Is this relevant to other people” has been a very strong razor. Writing in a closed loop, I spin my wheels.
I also want to document, early, how much I need commitments with other people. Alone, I go mad scientist real quick; my writing is the evidence, since I ramble and channel-change a lot. Results in the real world keep me grounded. Showing up at PR Strength to train is a system that already works in my life, and I need to set up the same thing for more of my work. This site is one of those commitments.
